Measurement of groundwater table level

Purpose: The measuring of the groundwater table level belongs to the standard measurements during the examination of hydrogeological conditions in permeable homogeneous soils. The groundwater table level is measured in hydro-boreholes during the construction and operation of virtually all of the geotechnical observation objects, the most common applications are in the construction of dams. The measurements can be carried out in various time intervals by piezometer or continuously by pressure gauges for liquids with datalogger.

Measurement principle: The observation hydro-borehole has a filtration section with sand filler in the observed section, the rest of the borehole is sealed. The measurement of the groundwater table level in hydro-borehole refers to the level of the ground surface. Within the stage borehole measurements a special measuring cable with centimetre sectioning (lever meter) is cast from the surface, at the very moment as the probe on the edge of the cable touches the water, the acoustic signal is transmitted. Gently pull it out (break in a signal) we find the exact level of the groundwater. If the measuring point is higher or water pressure exceeds the height of reading, the pressure can measured by a manometer. Within the automated measurement the sensor records the value of water pressure on the spot using a diaphragm, from which, by means of electrical signal, the records are conveyed to data-logger in which the values are stored.
